How Should I Approach my New York visit???
When visiting New York, you can go one of two routes:
Option A: Be The Typical Tourist
Grab your fannie pack, throw on your "I (heart) New York t-shirt," & pay $52 for an elevator ride up the Empire State building. Pay $200 for a Broadway show, and slowly stroll along the streets of 42nd street in awe of the tall skyscrapers (new yorkers hate this).
OR
Option B: Become a New Yorker
Immerse yourself in the culture. Learn what it's like to be apart of one of the greatest cities in the world. Interact with the locals, eat at the small hidden within the residential neighborhoods, hit up a strip of bars located in the depths of soho, or upper west side.
So often, people come to the city and they see what they think is New York. So often travelers fall victim to the traps of typical tourism that they miss out on the opportunity to EXPERIENCE the city for what is actually is. Become a new yorker! Drink at the bars on the upper west side, catch a summerstage concert in Central Park on a sunny afternoon, get some late night grub from a Halal truck. This is certainly way more fulfilling than shoppin on 5th avenue in overpriced stores, or getting sea sick on a ferry ride to Ellis Island. As opposed to traveling via City Sites tour bus, swipe your metrocard and take a subway ride through the veins of the city's underground.
See the city's culture, and get a sense of what the REAL New York has to offer.
